Sketches from the history of the school

The education of professional staff for the electrical engineering profession began in our city on June 11, 1929, when the Ministry of Trade of the Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes issued a Decision on the establishment of the State Vocational and Craft School in Osijek.
This date, June 11, is designated as our School Day.

The school was operated at the Osijek Iron Foundry and machinery factory d.d. Classes in general educational subjects were held by professors of osijek real gymnasium, and professional classes were held by engineers and professional workers from osijek foundry.

The subjects covered by the school’s work program at the time were:

  • Joinery
  • lathe – iron and wooden
  • casting of iron and metal
  • electrotechnology

The school operated under the same or similar name until the school year 1940/41, and in the following years the school was called the State Men’s Trade School at Olt.At the beginning of 1947/48 of the school year, the school changed its name to Industrial School at OLT. At the beginning of 1959, the school changed its name again and was called the Metalworking School with practical training.

On the tradition of these schools, immediately after the Second World War, on October 14, 1946, the Technical School “Nikola Tesla” began in Osijek.

There are electrical and mechanical engineering departments in that school. These schools are the roots of today’s Electrotechnical and Traffic School.

At the same time in the city of Osijek works metal processing school for students in the economy “Rade Končar”.

On February 8, 1963, the People’s Committee of the Municipality of Osijek adopted the Decision on the establishment of the Metal School Center for the Education of Personnel in the Metal and Electrical Engineering Profession. The center includes:

  • Technical School “Nikola Tesla”
  • Metal processing school with practical training
  • Metal processing school of pupils in economy “Rade Končar”

After only a few years, on October 26, 1968, the Center changed its name to

ELECTROMETALLIC SCHOOL CENTER OSIJEK.

Under this name, the center has undergone all the changes in the secondary education system. Changes also occurred in the Technical School, so in 1970/71 the department of low electricity – electronics was opened in the school year, and in the school year 1976/77 the Center’s activity was expanded to education for professions in the transport profession.

In the second half of 1991, the school feels all the hardships that war brings. Day and night artillery and mortar strikes make it impossible to start a new teaching year. The horrors of war take the students and teachers of the school into exile, partly to the school Hrvatski kralj Zvonimir and hotel Dražica in Krk, and the other part to Nagyatad – Republic of Hungary.

In Nagyatad we hold classes in the building of the gymnasium and medical school “Ady Endre”. Thanks to our hosts, we regularly completed the teaching year here, and in Hungary we held the final exam.

The school suffered extensive damage that immediately began to be repaired, so we started the school year 1992/93 in an almost repaired school.

The beginning of the school year 1992/93 brings a new structure of school centers. Electrometallic school center is divided into:

First technical school (electrical and traffic program)

and

Second technical school (mechanical engineering program).

These schools work in the same spaces, but in different shifts. The maintenance of the school is carried out according to the Agreement on the use of the school.

The first technical school, electrical and traffic program, has three didactic units, namely:

  • School of Electrical Engineering
  • Traffic Technical School and
  • Industrial and trade school.

Since the names of the First and Second Technical Schools did not determine the field of education, at the request of the schools these names were changed and now these schools are called

ELECTROTECHNICAL AND TRAFFIC SCHOOL OSIJEK

and

MECHANICAL ENGINEERING TECHNICAL SCHOOL OSIJEK.
